Our local film industry we sadly acknowledge is gasping for breath. Help us bring it back to its feet and nurse it back to health. Give us an MTRCB chairman who has roots in the film industry, an insider who knows well enough not to be manipulated by the unscrupulous among us but at the same time knowledgeable and inspiring.

The Western media will continue to reduce non-Westerners, for they have a vested interest in doing so, and it has become habitual. A first step in overcoming this would be to empower our own local and regional media, and to create rapport amongst them.

One cannot assume that media killings are isolated incidences because they happen in the larger context of wanton human rights violations. That the Macapagal-Arroyo administration is being held responsible for the killings should be seen in the context of its failure to bring to justice those who are responsible for the crimes.

It appears that Thomas is being served up as a distraction to the recent killing of humanitarian activists by Israeli commandos in international waters that managed muted peeps in Canada and the United States. President Barack Obama called Thomas’s remarks “offensive,” and this contrasts with his anemic reply to the murders of humanitarians in the flotilla.
